NBCB is excited to announce Splash! For East Branch, an upcoming event with our friends at Newtown Creek Alliance (NCA) and Riverkeeper.

We’d love our members and friends to come out and:

1) Have fun! Catch up with members and meet new friends.

2) Learn about a very important issue: the EPA’s Proposed Early Action Cleanup of the East Branch tributary of Newtown Creek.

Splash! for East Branch will be an action-packed day advocating for the future of Newtown Creek. The EPA’s plan is the first proposed Superfund cleanup of our waterway, and there is a concern that the plan doesn’t go far enough to protect long-term human and ecological health. What are the exact issues, and how do we propose improving the plan? Come find out!

Here’s what’s lined up for the event:

📖 Learn! EPA’s Proposed Cleanup Plan
🛶 Canoe! There will be free canoe trips along the East Branch tributary
🐟 Meet! Critters of Newtown Creek
🧹 Clean! Plank Road Public Shoreline
🌱 Plant! Native flowers & grasses
📝 Comment! Thoughts & concerns on EPA’s plan

This is a free and family-friendly event. Drinks and light snacks will be available. No experience is required to canoe, but all participants must sign a waiver and follow all instructions of NBCB volunteers and trip leaders.

NBCB will be facilitating canoe rides for the public. If you are interested in in volunteering for the event send us an email.

This is a free event, but we’d love to know you’re coming so please RSVP!

Hope to see you there!
